![]() ![]() So there are always going to be people who forget to enable Tor, and endanger themselves. The bigger threat is, because Tox offers calls, it can't offer Tor-by-default. But the problem is low-latency calls don't work over Tor - anywhere. There's also the case of verifying Tox ID authenticity to protect yourself from MITM attacks literally anyone (who can intercept ID delivery) can do. >You just need to trust the person in the other end you're talking to. It's open source and all so no back doors so you can trust it" Two wrongs don't make a right.īut here's what your average advanced user thinks: "They said it protects you so it must work. Including respectable applications like Signal. No need to mention 'does not hide who information about who you talk to, when, and how much'." Why? Because nobody else is doing that and why should I deter users when everyone else is conning user-base too. Here's what Tox developer thinks: "Of course it doesn't protect your metadata, everyone knows that if they just bothered to read an article on surveillance, understand the nuances between metadata and content, the implications of statistical analysis of metadata, understand protocol design of Tox and put that all together. This implies it protects you from government surveillance. Tox is easy-to-use software that connects you with friends and family without anyone else listening in. >Whether it's corporations or governments, digital surveillance today is widespread. It's a bit easier to set up, chat works better for me and it has way better UI, in my opinion.>Everybody knows it's uses p2p communication. If someone is reading this and wondering what to use, I'd recommend Tox (qTox client) for now. Jitsi sometimes fails to establish a connection and we're left hanging. However, when I try to lower the resolution of a video output in qTox then it gets all messed up during the video call. If your DAW uses VST2, VST3, AAX in Windows or VST2, VST3, AU, AAX in macOS 10.12 or later, you can use the Audio Issues EQ to make better mixes. It also works on the new M1 Apple computers. I still don't know what's caused the problems in those clients, but right now everything is fine (I have made no changes in the settings). The Audio Issues EQ works in all modern DAWs that can load third-party plug-ins in 64-bit format. Audio is clear, the video is laggy but that seems to be the problem with my relatively slow internet connection. ![]() If you have anything else to add and/or suggest, please tell me! Thank you!ĮDIT2: After some further testing with webcams on both ends, there have been some changes. What causes this and how can I make video secure, too? We added each other as contacts and tried the chat function - which worked, but with a slight delay in delivering messages, video call worked flawlessly according to the other person (no camera problems) except this. Default settings - no additional settings adjustments were made in Jitsi client (I turned off packet logging, not sure why, tho). I created Ostel account and used that with Jitsi. I double checked that I exchanged correct IDs with the other party, but neither side could receive chat messages or see pending calls. I couldn't get it to even start any chat conversation let alone audio or video call. Should I try it on some other Tox client? If yes, which one would you recommend as the most stable one?Īs for Ring, well. The video I see of myself is good - there are only problems on the other end of the call. Everything else works fine - chat is instant, screenshot sharing, file sharing, audio is clear etc. ![]() Quick Google search didn't bring back any helpful solutions. I really liked qTox but I ran into some issues with video calls where the other party would see bright/white screen or pixelated/blurry screen fairly often (every 10 seconds or so). Also, I tested the camera using OBS to see if there are any irregularities while recording and there were none.) (Note: Right now, it is only me who is using the camera, the other person is waiting for the shipment arrival. You can skip to the Jitsi part if you are not interested in troubleshooting Tox and/or Ring. not even chat) and Jitsi with Ostel account. So far, I tested Tox (on qTox client), Ring (couldn't get it to work at all. I was looking for a secure and private video chat program. ![]()
